HERO’S B’DAY – HE IS TRYING TO “STAND UP AND BE STRONG”

does anyone think my mare will foal soon?
my mare was bought in foal and the previous owner doesn’t have an a proper due date, she was running with stallion from june to august last year. she has a very open large, relaxed vulva that is quiet reddish pink inside, she has plenty of milk that comes out easy, its thick, sticky and yellow like honey but has not bagged up, but she is an experienced mare and iv hear ed they don’t always bag up, she has become very aggressive to other horses if stabled next to them so is now stabled near no one, in the field she likes to be alone but she has had all these signs for last week and still no foal, have been up at yard in caravan watching on monitor every night. can anyone please help?
Yep. Any day now, possibly tonight. She probably is likely to drop when you are not looking! I have known mares to foal down when the groom goes for a wee!
I don’t know about the experienced mare not bagging, but if “milk” is coming out she might just not be one to do that, or she might bag up suddenly within an hour or two of birth.
We had one mare who showed all the signs of being expectant and never threw a foal! My father who often worked out in the field was instructed by the vet and the mare’s owner to collect a wee sample! I will never forget the sight of him cupping a sample in his hands hollering for a pot as he had practically rugby tackled her for it!
Another one I knew was bought on one day, taken out for a 10 mile drive, and the next morning she had a thoroughbred type foal at foot! The new owner had no idea she was expecting. He thought she was just “a good doer!” Hows that for two for the price of one!?
I wish you well. If she looks well then she will drop it when she is ready. Once she starts though she will do it quickly – and woe betide you if you try and get your hands on it!
