Beginners’ Guide To Horse Training—Basic Horse Training Tips
Horse training is not something that you can learn overnight. It is a continuous learning process. Even horsemen who have been doing equine training for many years are still trying to learn more about these beasts and how to tame them. As a beginner, you should learn the basic facts about these magnificent beasts. Here are some important horse training tips that you should consider.
First and foremost, you should know that horses are herd animals. And herds usually have a leader in their group. In a herd of horse, a stallion is usually the leader. But the one that chooses which direction to go is the lead mare. Between you and your horse, you should be the lead mare and your horse should be the stallion, regardless of gender.
You have to know that horses are naturally scared of people and other animals. At first, these magnificent beasts will show their distrust. What you should do is to make them trust you. Developing trust is one of the most basic horse training tips that you should master. Your actions and speech should always be gentle and firm.
Do not do anything that will surprise the horse. Since you are the trainer, show your horse how things are supposed to be done. Employ a punishment and reward system. This way, the horse will know when it is doing something bad or good. Horse training usually starts when the horse reaches the age of two. However, it is important to teach a foal below two years old how to behave properly around people and other animal. As they always say, it is easier to teach the young ones how to behave properly than the old ones.
These horse training tips are important. But they are not enough if you want to be a successful horseman. Conduct further research and learn more about horse training.
